Ragans K's 17 As Saints Shut Down Browns; Wallner Slugs 3 Homers as the Party Blanks the Longhorns

Salt Lake City (UBAN) - Cole Ragans retired 17 batters on strikeouts and Matt Olson connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Salt Lake City Saints defeated the St. Louis Browns by a score of 9 to 3 at Saints Field.
Ragans(4-2) escaped virtually unscathed against the St. Louis hitters. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings dropping his ERA from 2.86 to 2.62. For the game Salt Lake City out-hit St. Louis 12 to 6.
Aaron Civale(4-6) took the loss. He gave up 4 hits and 3 walks in 1/3 of an inning. The Salt Lake City fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Ragans, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 17 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a standing ovation.' Tony Gwynn said following the game.
Left fielder Matt Wallner rocketed 3 homeruns as the Oakland Black Panthers really laid it on the Indianapolis Longhorns 11 to 0.
Wallner had a great evening at the plate. He blasted a solo shot in the 2nd inning, delivered a solo blast in the 7th inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 9th inning. The Oakland offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Matthew Liberatore(5-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing no runs. Adrian Martinez earned his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Dean Kremer(1-7). He surrended 4 homeruns in his 4 and 2/3 innings.
Wth the win Oakland now has a record of 34-40. With this loss, Indianapolis has a 3-7 record of late, 24-48, worst in the division overall.
