Lemurs' Snell Mows Down Angels; Brandon Belts a Pair as Alleghenys Tame Panthers
June 27, 2024
Vancouver (UBAN) - Blake Snell carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Death Lemur Field where the Vancouver Death Lemurs beat the Los Angeles Angels by the score of 3 to 0.
Snell(8-4) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Los Angeles hitters. He allowed just 1 hit and 3 walks in 8 innings. Snell racked up 10 strikeouts lowering his ERA to 2.59. The left-handed Snell lost his chance for a no-hitter when Adolis Garcia singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Vancouver rapped out 7 hits for the night.
A.J. Puk was credited with his 11th save. Cristian Javier(10-3) was the loser. While he was the losing pitcher, he still struck out 8 batters in 5 innings.
'Everything felt great' Snell said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'
Brandon Belt cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Luis Castillo struck out 10 batters at Black Panther Park as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys beat the Oakland Black Panthers by the count of 8 to 2.
Belt was unconscious all evening. The Oakland fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He doubled knocking in a run in the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 3rd inning, ripped a solo home run in the 5th inning and banged out a single in the 7th inning. Pittsburgh finished with 12 hits while Oakland ended up with 5.
Castillo(9-4) allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Adam Wainwright(0-4) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 8 hits in 5 innings.
Castillo was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
