Miami (UBAN) - Luis Arraez had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Marlins Park as the Miami Marlins beat the Dallas Colts by the count of 8 to 7.
Obviously without his best stuff, Bryce Elder(7-7) still hung on to pick up the win. He gave up 7 runs, 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Elder was helped out by Evan Phillips who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 4th save.
Daniel Lynch(1-3) was given the loss. His ERA increased from 5.68 to 9.15 as he allowed 8 runs in 2/3 of an inning. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Joe Girardi said after the game. 'Elder did not have command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
In a startling finish the streaking New Orleans Blues staged a comeback then held on to win over the Louisville Sluggers by a score of 7 to 4 at Sluggers Park.
New Orleans erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning when they came up with 4 runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Wilmer Flores who silenced the stadium when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
Colin Holderman(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Holderman got relief help from Bryan Abreu who gained credit for his 19th save. Brusdar Graterol(3-1) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning and surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Graterol said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
