Washington (UBAN) - Jurickson Profar had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Atlanta Chiefs came back to win one over hapless Washington Federals, 4 to 3.
Atlanta came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs on 2 base hits. Ha-Seong Kim kicked off the action when he stroked a one-base hit. Mike Yastrzemski was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. After another out, Taylor Ward then reached on an error. Profar followed next and he doubled plating two runs. The Washington batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Trevor Richards(3-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Richards was helped out by Clay Holmes who recorded his 10th save. Shintaro Fujinami(3-5) was the losing pitcher in relief.
Richie Zisk was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
tonight'
John Means had an impressive outing as the St. Louis Browns topped the Chicago Otters by a score of 4 to 0 at Sportsman's Park.
Means(3-0) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 2 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings lowering his ERA from 3.57 to 2.55. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that point. Gunnar Henderson and Andrew Vaughn homered in support of Means.
Kutter Crawford(7-6) suffered the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.
