Toledo (UBAN) - Shohei Ohtani whiffed 13 batters and hit a grand slam to account for all the runs in a game at Klinger Field where the impressive New York Highlanders beat the Toledo Mud Hens 4 to 1.
Ohtani(11-4) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score.
Justin Lawrence earned his 20th save. The losing pitcher was Michael Lorenzen(9-6). He allowed just 5 hits and no walks in 7 innings. Ohtani was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
Giancarlo Stanton blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Mexico City Aguilas Doradas defeated the Salt Lake City Saints 9 to 5 at El Nido de Aguilas.
Stanton really 'lit it up' for Mexico City. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st inning, belted a three-run homer in the 5th inning and lined a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Mexico City had 11 hits overall, while Salt Lake City had 3.
Bryan Baker(3-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. James Paxton(1-12) was charged with the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings.
'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park tonight,' Stanton said. 'I'm glad I decided to play!'
