New York (UBAN) - Shohei Ohtani touched them all and had 2 RBI and Spencer Strider dominated striking out 16 New Orleans batters at Babe Ruth Park as the potent New York Highlanders beat the New Orleans Blues by the count of 4 to 1.
Strider(14-5) was simply too much for the New Orleans batters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Justin Lawrence was perfect in relief and got the save, his 22nd.
The loss was charged to Justin Verlander(11-8). He gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. Strider was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
In a thriling finish the Baltimore Elite Giants pulled off the win over the Pittsburgh Alleghenys by a score of 2 to 1 at Roy Campanella Field.
The game was won by Baltimore when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Tommy Pham slapped a single.
