Mexico City (UBAN) - In a thriller the New York Highlanders staged a dramatic comeback then held on to win over the Mexico City Aguilas Doradas by a score of 3 to 2 at El Nido de Aguilas. The UBA Championship Series is now knotted at 2 games apiece.
New York erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. Gabriel Arias kicked off the action when he hit a bases-empty home run. After another out, Freddie Freeman got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Shohei Ohtani then delivered a solo blast. New York took care of Mexico City with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Sam Moll(3-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Yennier Cano(0-2) was the loser in relief. After the game, it took a long while before John Smoltz emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a
very talkative mood tonight, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the New York locker room.'
