38-year Drought Ends as Aguilas Doradas Win their First UBA Championship
November 1, 2024
New York (UBAN) - It was 38 years ago when the expansion Oakland Clippers took the filed for their inagural season. The team quickly moved to Las Vegas in 1988 where it enjoyed modest success - back-to-back division titles in 2000 and 2001 - though they were eliminated both times in the first round of the play-offs.
Then in 2018, Alan moved the club to Mexico City. Two more division championships followed (2021, 2022), but a pennant still eluded them, until this year's improbable run through the West with a different late-inning hero every night.
But in the end it was almost too easy. Fittingly, Series' MVP Mookie Betts scored the first run in the top of th first, giving the Aguilas a lead they would never relinquish, the final score was 8 to 3.
Eddie Rosario had a big day with his bat. He smashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning, tripled which was good for two runs in the 5th inning and slapped a base-hit in the 8th inning. Mexico City had 11 hits for the night.
The victory went to George Kirby(2-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs. Spencer Strider(3-1) was the losing pitcher. Mexico City knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs in - 4 earned - 4 innings.
