Honolulu (UBAN) - Sean Manaea dominated striking out 14 Salt Lake City batters at Aloha Stadium as the Hawaii Islanders came back dramatically to top the Salt Lake City Saints by the score of 4 to 3.
Hawaii had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 4 runners on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Yandy Diaz who electrified Aloha Stadium when he doubled with all three baserunners touching home. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 8th inning.
Landen Roupp(2-0) allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Tanner Scott(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning and saw his ERA jump from 4.02 to 5.63.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Diaz noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
Kaleb Ort shut Indianapolis down and second baseman Jose Iglesias had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New Orleans Blues outscored the Indianapolis Longhorns 6 to 4.
New Orleans had 4 runs cross the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Iglesias who brought the crowd to their feet when he tripled plating two runs. Indianapolis was retired without difficulty in the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Luis Severino(2-1) who allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Severino was helped out by Ort who recorded his 2nd save. Ben Joyce(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.
