Stowers Keys Federals Win Over Highlanders; Goldschmidt Homers Lifts Otters to Walk-Off Win
May 19, 2025
New York (UBAN) - Kyle Stowers cracked a homer and had 4 RBI as the Washington Federals bested the New York Highlanders 6 to 3 at Babe Ruth Park.
Stowers was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He doubled plating two runs in the 1st inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Triston McKenzie(1-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 runs. Trevor Megill recorded his 10th save. Randy Vasquez(1-1) was the loser. His ERA increased from 3.12 to 5.00 as he allowed 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
It was a great finish at Otter Park as the Chicago Otters pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Dallas Colts by the count of 2 to 1.
Chicago won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2 runs. Corey Seager kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Paul Goldschmidt came next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run giving Chicago the victory as 47,849 happy fans celebrated wildly. The
game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Andrew Nardi(2-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Pete Fairbanks(0-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 1 hit and 1 walk without retiring a batter.
Jim Leyland was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Steven Jayne, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
