Marauder's Hunter Greene No-Hits Islanders; Sounds, BPP Both Rally for 9th Inning Wins

May 21, 2025

Honolulu (UBAN) - Hunter Greene(4-2) thrilled the fans at Aloha Stadium as he crafted a no-hit masterpiece against the Hawaii Islanders. The Memphis Marauders won by a final score of 3 to 0. Although disappointed to see the hometown team lose, the fans certainly were appropriately impressed with the dominating, no-hit performance of Greene.

He only walked 3 Hawaii batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Greene appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Greene recorded 10 strikeouts. Hawaii could do no damage in the bottom of the 9th.

Mitch Keller(4-3) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. 'Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen!' Greene said as he stood at home plate to salute the fans. 'Once I got into the later innings, I decided to challenge every hitter, and that turned out to be the right decision!'

Seattle's Gavin Williams tossed the first no-hitter of the season on April 27. The victim that day was also the Hawaii Islanders.

In a great finish in New York, the Nashville Sounds came back in the top of the ninth and held on to win over the New York Highlanders by a score of 11 to 9 at Babe Ruth Park.

Nashville came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs using 3 hits. Mitch Haniger led off and keyed the rally when he stroked a one-base hit. Leo Jimenez next to the plate and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Alex Call then lined a single, and an error was also committed, scoring a single run. One out later, Carlos Correa stepped in and he banged out a base-hit as two more runners crossed the plate. Nashville simply wore out the New York pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Gus Varland(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Jhoan Duran preserved the game for Varland, recording his his 12th save. Garrett Cleavinger(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.

Cleavinger was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'

And out in LA, Jackson Chourio hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Oakland Black Panthers rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Los Angeles Angels, 10 to 9.

Oakland scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning with 3 runs using 2 hits. Jonathan India opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Ceddanne Rafaela struck out, unable to help the rally. Chourio then doubled. One out later, Tyler Fitzgerald came to the plate and lofted a

three-run bomb. Oakland managed 9 hits in their victory.

Luke Weaver(1-5) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Kirby Yates recorded his 5th save. Andres Munoz(1-3) was the loser in relief.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Weaver, 'was if we had played it at home.'
