Richmond (UBAN) - Right fielder Max Kepler had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Lab Rat Stadium as the Richmond Lab Rats beat the Memphis Marauders by the count of 6 to
4.
Richmond came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning when they came up with 4 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Kepler who excited the crowd when he slapped a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners. Richmond banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.
Brant Hurter(3-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Hurter got help from Hector Neris who was credited with his 4th save. Chad Kuhl(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
Bailey Ober carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and shortstop Ernie Clement jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys defeated the Jacksonville Jacks by a score of 8 to 0 at PNC Park.
Ober(4-1) was simply too much for the Jacksonville batters. He allowed just 1 hit and 3 walks in 7 innings. Ober whiffed an impressive total of 10 Jacksonville batters lowering his ERA from 2.73 to 2.48. The right-handed Ober had his no-hit bid broken up by Josh Jung who singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Pittsburgh had 14 hits overall, while Jacksonville had 2.
The losing pitcher was Yariel Rodriguez(1-4). He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Ober offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands.
Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
