Louisville (UBAN) - Designated hitter Kerry Carpenter hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Sluggers Park as the Louisville Sluggers staged a comeback win over the Toledo Mud Hens by the count of 5 to 4.
Louisville had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base hits. Ha-Seong Kim opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Brendan Donovan stepped up next and he lashed a single. Ivan Herrera got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Carpenter followed and he lined a one-base hit scoring a run. Wilyer Abreu followed, but he was set down on strikes. Victor Caratini did his part to keep things going and doubled making Louisville the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Although they lost, Toledo did out-hit Louisville 13 to 10.
Keegan Akin(4-2) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Phil Maton(2-6) absorbed the loss in relief. Joe Orsulak was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know
how my counterpart, Caitlin Clark, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
Carlos Rodon whiffed 15 batters at Angel Stadium as the Indianapolis Longhorns beat the Los Angeles Angels 7 to 2.
Rodon(9-3) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings. Los Angeles was out-hit by Indianapolis, 12 hits to 5.
Michael King(4-7) took the loss. Rodon was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
