NY's Luis Gil No-Hits Buffalo, 4th in UBA in '25; Otters Manage Only One Hit in Win Over Marlins

July 7, 2025

New York (UBAN) - New York fans certainly got their money's worth at Babe Ruth Park. Luis Gil(4-3) pitched a no-hitter as the New York Highlanders toppled the Buffalo Bisons 2 to 0. It was the fourth no-hitter tossed in the UBA this season.

Gil was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward. The adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins. The atmosphere was electric out there in Babe Ruth Park this afternoon! He allowed Buffalo just one walk. The New York players and coaches started to leave Gil alone with his thoughts

after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Gil recorded 15 strikeouts. New York managed 8 hits in their victory.

The loss was charged to Braxton Garrett(2-3). 'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Gil said. 'I was out there focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.'

Gil's feat was also the 4th no-hitter in Highlander history, the last one thrown by Jon Lester in 2017.

Mitchell Parker carried a no-hitter in to the 7th inning, losing the no-hit bid with one out as Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo homerun. It was the only hit the Chicago Otters would get and the only run scored in the game.

Jorge Alcala(3-5) was the eventual winner in the Otters' 1 to 0 win over the Miami Marlins at Otter Park. He did the job in relief, and got credit for the win. He was reached for 3 hits and no walks in 2 and 1/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.53 to 4.31.

Alexis Diaz recorded the save, his 21st. Mitchell Parker(6-9) was the loser. He struck out 10 batters in 6 and 1/3 innings despite losing the game. The Marlins had ten hits for the game but could not push a run across the plate.
