Tena Delivers Monarchs a Walk-Off Win; Vaughn Drives in Five to Pace Marauders

Kansas City (UBAN) - The Kansas City Monarchs won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Vancouver Death Lemurs at Monarch Stadium pulling it out in their last at bats, 5 to 2.

Kansas City erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2 base hits. Jake Cronenworth opened up the inning nicely when he ripped a single. After an out was recorded, Lars Nootbaar came up and he drew a walk. Jose Tena then lofted a three-run 'big-fly' giving Kansas City the victory as 29,463 happy fans celebrated wildly. Kansas City managed 8 hits in their victory.

Carlos Hernandez(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and allowing no runs. Genesis Cabrera(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

First baseman Andrew Vaughn lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 5 RBI and Hunter Greene retired 11 batters on strikeouts at Marlins Park where the Memphis Marauders beat the Miami Marlins 9 to 2.

Vaughn enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer in the 1st inning and singled which scored a run in the 6th inning. Memphis had 12 hits overall, while Miami had 8.

Greene(9-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2 runs. Taijuan Walker(2-6) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 5 walks.

'He was really impressive tonight,' Walker said of his counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'
